Level Zero is an asymmetrical survival horror multiplayer game. Presented from a first-person perspective, the gameplay shows the struggles of two groups of players playing as researchers fighting for survival and the monsters hunting them. The game was developed by indie studio DogHowl Games.

Plot

In the year 2058, technological advances have enabled mankind to conquer the distant corners of the universe. Scientists from the New Horizon Corporation take part in an expedition to the planet Turion. However, bloodthirsty life forms await them on the spot, who fear only one thing - light.

Game mechanics

In Level Zero we have the opportunity to play the role of one of the four explorers sent to the mysterious planet. In the course of the game, we perform tasks leading to the escape from Turion, including restoring power in subsequent sectors of the station or completing equipment.

As scientists we have no access to conventional weapons, to survive we have to cooperate with the other players and skillfully use light. We scare away monsters, for example, using flares or searchlights that react to movement. After death, we can still help our companions by impersonating a drone, which can signal incoming danger or help us find mission objectives. With experience points, we personalize our character or unlock traits to facilitate future struggles.

On the opposite side of the barricade stand two monsters, which players can also take on. Taking control of one of the beasts from Turion, we gain the ability to track scientists through their heartbeats. We also benefit from telepathic powers and the ability to disrupt electronics. The key to success is to deprive the researchers of light sources at a moment convenient for attack. In addition, monsters move through ventilation shafts and create nests with creatures lurking for lone researchers.
