The Boy and the Heron is Hayao Miyazaki's latest work, which has received acclaim from audiences, as well as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – the production was recognized at the Oscars, winning the Best Animated Feature category.

Now many viewers who haven’t had the opportunity to see the movie on the big screens are waiting for its streaming debut. From the beginning, the film had the best chance of appearing on Max, a platform that had previously signed a deal with Studio Ghibli, which brought the studio's other productions to its library. And as it turns out, The Boy and the Heron will follow in their footsteps, the animated film will be available on Max. The streamer has extended its contract with Studio Ghibli, so it will still have exclusivity on its movies.

It hasn’t yet been announced when The Boy and the Heron will hit Max. The streaming release date will probably be announced later this year.

Miyazaki's latest film tells the story of a stubborn boy who, after his mother dies and his father remarries, travels to a dream-like world where both the living and the dead reside. You can watch the trailer for The Boy and the Heron below.
