During the recent Minecraft Live, about which we wrote recently, players received a lot of information about update 1.21 to Minecraft. You'll have to wait until at least mid-2024 for its implementation, but snapshots are already starting to appear, showcasing new features and enabling us to test them.

What is a Snapshot?

It's a type of test build, where players of the Minecraft Java Edition can check out upcoming features and report their feedback to the developer. This enables the developers to make key improvements before the new update goes live. You can find out more about it on the game's official website. Users of the Bedrock version can also take part in testing, using the "beta" tool.

What does Snapshot 23W42A introduce?

Snapshot 23W42A introduces a new tool block, called "Crafter", for automating the creation of items. It can be positioned in any direction after placement, and will dispense created items from the front. The block should be powered by redstone. It works with feeders and funnels. Mojang encourages people to share their impressions of using crafter on a dedicated channel.

If you decide to take part in the test, be sure to back up your world or run the snapshot on a new one. Although the risk is minimal, you never know how this version of the game will behave.

The new Armadillo mob, which won the controversial community vote, will appear in later snapshots. In the meantime, it's time to automate crafting.
