WRC Generations Announced; Nacon Bids Farewell to the Series

Not WRC 11, but WRC Generations - that's the name of the latest game in the series by KT Racing and Nacon. The developers promise a complete current rally season (including hybrid cars) and abundant „historical” content. We also have the first trailer and release date.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. WRC Generations is the latest installment in the game series from KT Racing and Nacon;
  2. The main novelty will be hybrid rally cars;
  3. The game will feature circuits in 22 countries, including a revamped Sweden;
  4. In addition to modern cars, we will also see 37 historical and "bonus" machines;
  5. The gane will be released on October 13, 2022 on PC, PS5, XSX/S, PS4 and XOne.

This year's installment of the long-standing racing game series WRC raises more emotions than previous ones. It has long been known that this will be the last installment developed by KT Racing (and Nacon), before the license is passed to Codemasters, so you could hope that the 11th major installment would turn out to be somehow special.

Well, one could consider it interesting that the game is not called WRC 11. Fortunately, we also have some more interesting novelties. First to the fore is the Rally1 category, i.e. hybrid rally cars (i.e. equipped with both combustion and electric engines) - a novelty from the real WRC, introduced in the current season. We will get three machines of this type: Ford Puma, Toyota GR Yaris and Hyundai i20.

Besides, Nacon tries to stun us with numbers. 750 kilometers of roads on 165 special stages in 22 countries (13 from the current season and 9 additional ones), 49 teams currently competing, 37 historic and "bonus" cars - that sounds like a ton of content, doesn't it?

Of course, you have to take these values with a grain of salt. The number of tracks can be divided by half, because the publisher counts separately the same circuits with traffic flowing in the opposite direction, and among the cars there will undoubtedly be doubles (i.e. models that differ from each other at most by paintjob).

I'm certain of that because of WRC 10, in which I've seen the same tricks. Anyway a lot of the content in Generations is going to be coming out of the previous part - for a year, the developer couldn't have prepared a lot of novelties. Nevertheless, we are not likely to get bored quickly with what has been provided.

Or maybe Nacon is just happy that it won't have to bring the archaic graphics up to "next-gen" standards?

Another attraction, which KT Racing and Nacon boast about, is restored Sweden (presented in the above trailer and screenshots scattered across the news). In place of the current special stages, which have been pasted from one season to the next since times immemorial, there will be new ones, better suited to the current nature of this rally and nicer... at least in theory.

There are also some minor innovations:

  1. Multiplayer leagues in which we can challenge other players (more precise information was not provided);
  2. Unspecified improvements to car physics;
  3. New career mode options related to managing hybrid racers;
  4. Options to share stickers and "skins" created in the paint editor with other players.

This is apparently not the end of the planned novelties, but we'll have to wait for more details. We will get to know them in the five months that separate us from the premiere. WRC Generations will debut on October 13, 2022 on PC, PS5, XSX/S, PS4 and XOne. Somehow there was no mention of the Switch version this time.
