Find and speak with Birstan

Ealdorman's House is the huge ruin on the hill. From a conversation with Wyatt you will find out that Birstan is not home, but you can meet his wife, in one of the rooms upstairs.

Find Birstan's camp

After you reach the ealdorman's house, you will witness Birstan's conversation with his brothers Eadred, Wyatt and Aldrich.

  1. Eadred accuses the lord that he allows King Aelfred's soldiers to run rampant in the city;
  2. Wyatt, on the other hand, accuses the lord of spending a lot of money on preparations for Lammas while his people are starving;
  3. Aldrich is concerned about their fyrd, because Birstan sends his people to King Aelfred to fight in his war, and the grain in Essexe lies uncollected in the field.

You can answer these accusations as you wish, because it will not matter much. All in all, in the end, they agree that Birstan is completely useless as a ruler.
